IN SPOT LIGHT
CRESTEL Subscriber Service Selection System (SSSS)

Changing market scenarios have paved way for the growth of triple-play services. More and more telcos are now offering bundled voice, video and data services to retain their existing subscriber base and entice prospective customers. Delivery of these converged services need sophisticated network infrastructure, which involves hefty capital expenditure. With the network’s capability to support a certain number of subscribers, who often under-utilize bandwidth allocated to them, it becomes more of a challenge to maintain revenue margins since costs cannot be passed on to them beyond a reasonable level owing to cut-throat competition in this industry.

Data, voice, and video services - all have different bandwidth requirements. What providers need is a one-stop solution with which subscribers can be initially provisioned with the basic bandwidth requirement and then allow them to avail bandwidth on demand for resource-covetous applications in tandem with improvement in QoS and other network functions such as traffic management & content filtering. The solution should give subscribers the ability to select services as per their exigency & financial prudence.

Crestel Subscriber Service Selection System (SSSS) is a subscriber-accessible, “self-service” web portal, deployable within service providers’ network to offer “on-the-fly” service selection and real-time service activation to subscribers. “Crestel SSSS” portal enables service providers to deploy an array of services, distinguished as Primary Service and Value-added Services, to offer subscribers a “service library” to pick required services, without unleashing control over the networks. This highly scalable and flexible offering equips carrier providers to build service convergence at customer-level, providing service creation, activation, subscriber management & accounting functions.

Crestel SSSS enables service providers to configure and provision their networks “one-time” and build up variety of services, thereafter. This makes Crestel SSSS a single solution for subscribers to select and activate services whenever they want.

Crestel resorts to a market-focused approach, involving the 4Cs – customers, content partners, channel partners, competition.

Benefit to Service Providers
SSSS facilitates providers to offer a converged service delivery platform with a seamless integration of services, application and media. Bandwidth on-demand will enable them to accommodate more subscribers into their existing network, ensure optimal utilization of their network, and maintain their margins despite competitive pricing. The ability to transform flat fee structure of service offering to “pay-per-usage” model using dynamic bandwidth allocation also increases the average revenue per user (ARPU) significantly.

Benefits to Content Partners
SSSS brings good tidings for content providers in the form of a new revenue stream arising out of the partnership with the service provider. The vast reach of the service provider’s subscriber base provides greater penetration of the content.

Benefits to Customers
Crestel SSSS allows see-through login to service provider’s subscribers to view, select, activate and de-activate services, giving them the freedom of choice to services & quality of service, and convenient assessment & switch-over of price plans for “Duration-based” or “Time-based” pricing; all this with “zero-touch” provisioning. Subscribers can well-choose from a wide range of services on SSSS, not just by one but several content partners for different service types such as Bandwidth on Demand, Video on Demand, Television on Demand, or VoIP on Demand, at a single location without having to log in and log out. With the control in their hands, customers get better quality of service, and value for money since they pay only for what they use.

This creates a win-win situation for all in the ecosystem.

TECHNOLOGY PARTNERSHIPS
Crestel’s SSSS integrates with Redback’s NPM

Triple-play service convergence provides emerging opportunities for service providers, content partners and subscribers to enter into a new epoch of multimedia and broadband entertainment. In order to penetrate into this high revenue-making market & boost up the subscriber base, service providers need to provide differentiated services over and above the primary service(s) and also catch attention of the potential content partners for broadcasting appealing solutions and services to subscribers. The mode and manner of service delivery also becomes an imperative aspect of service deliverance. Subsequently, this necessitates service providers to put together multi-network technologies and multi-vendor devices in a centralized and integrated manner for smooth network transition.

Crestel has made this possible by integrating its Subscriber Service Selection Portal with Redback’s NPM Server (NetOp Policy Manager). This “Crestel-NPM” integration provides real-time provisioning to achieve instantaneous service selection, activation, and deactivation. With real-time provisioning service providers can provide services to subscribers within a lesser turn-around time, which also contributes in up surging and retaining the subscriber base and thus generate higher revenues.

CRESTEL CASE
SATel, a Greenfield telecom operator in Bangladesh chose to deploy Crestel to launch postpaid and prepaid voice services using CDMA technology on fixed wireless terminal (FWT).

They have seen a phenomenal rise in their subscriber base due to faster rollout schemes and VAS, and excellent customer service. With this their average revenue per user (ARPU) rose by 51% in a span of 8 months of launching operations. Within a short span of time they effectively followed up their postpaid service offerings with prepaid. Moreover, SATel is now future-ready, without being dependent on proprietary vendors.

Read the case study to know how Crestel enabled SATel to realize its objectives.
